MPs of Ukraine have failed to elect new Human Rights Commissioner, head of the parliamentary Counting commission Mykola Shershun announced, ForUm correspondent reports.
According to the official, 391 MPs took part in the voting, 27 votes were recognized invalid, and 18 MPs did not support any of the candidates.
The candidature of Evgen Zakharov (nominee from the opposition) has got 134 votes and Valeria Lutkovska has got 212 votes (nominee from the majority). Hence, none of the candidate has received necessary 226 votes.
Speaker Volodymyr Lytyvn announced that according to the legislation the parliament has to submit other candidates within 20 days.
