Speaking at the extended meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has declared the start of new social policy, ForUm correspondent reports.

"We've gathered here to consider issue of the state social policy, as we can see that citizens are not satisfied with the current one," Yanukovych said.

Speaking about social initiatives the President noted that for today the priority task is to reduce the gap between social layers.

"A great number of citizens live below the poverty line. We must develop a mechanism of just distribution of benefits, to create new jobs so that citizens able to work do not apply for state assistance. Besides, new jobs will provide additional revenues to the Pension Fund," he said.

Yanukovych also urged the government to publicly take obligations to increase social standards for the most vulnerable layer of the population - pensioners.
