On March 6-8, 2012 Kyiv will host a seminar for national coordinators of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). Seminar guests include 38 participants, press office of the State veterinary and sanitary service of Ukraine reports.

At the seminar the participants will discuss OIE regional strategy on animal welfare, EU legislation and experience in this sphere, as well as international trade and animal welfare standards.

The OIE is the intergovernmental organisation responsible for improving animal health worldwide.
It is recognised as a reference organisation by the World Trade Organization (WTO) and in 2011 had a total of 178 Member Countries. The OIE maintains permanent relations with 45 other international and regional organisations and has Regional and sub-regional Offices on every continent.

OIE regional commission for Europe is one of the five commissions, set up to express specific problems facing its Members in the different regions. Regional Commission organises a Conference every two years in one of the countries of the region. These Conferences are devoted to technical items and to regional cooperation in the control of animal diseases. Since 1994 Ukraine has been an OIE member and taken active part in all events on provision of animal welfare.
