Saturday President Viktor Yanukovych met with Emergencies Minister Viktor Baloha, who reported on the beginning of new Shelter construction at the Chornobyl NPP, presidential press office informed.
The President stressed that overcoming the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster is crucial for Ukraine and for the entire international community. Ukraine must carefully fulfill its obligations regarding the financing of projects realized at the Chornobyl NPP site, said Viktor Yanukovych.
The Minister also informed the President on the Emergencies Ministry’s readiness to protect the population from spring floods.
Another topic of discussion at the meeting was fire safety, especially at the children’s facilities. The President reminded that he had instructed the Government and local administrations to take measures to prevent fires.
In the context of preparation for EURO 2012, the President asked the Minister about the implementation of emergency assistance telephone line 112.
As Viktor Baloha said after the meeting, it is now important to ensure that the Shelter construction works at the Chornobyl NPP are carried out in the timeframe previously agreed with the EBRD and are completed by 2015. "In April 2012, we will see the installation of arches at the Chornobyl NPP," he said.
