Formation of the personal composition of the Constitutional Assembly of 100 scientists, politicians and public figures will end on April 16, according to Maryna Stavniychuk, the Advisor to the President of Ukraine/Head of the Directorate General for Constitutional and Legal Modernization of the Presidential Administration, UKRINFORM reports.
"April 16, 2012 is the deadline to make nominations. Obviously, there is every reason that the Constitutional Assembly start work in April or May 2012," the official emphasized.
She noted that the Constitutional Assembly all the time will be receiving recommendations from the Venice Commission.
According to Stavniychuk, making nominations to the Assembly is underway. The proposals have already come from political parties, scientific institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, leading universities, as well as public organizations.
The presidents aide also believes that the majority in the Constitutional Assembly should be scientists. "Creating the Constitutional Assembly should be beyond politics. It should be a matter of national interest," Stavniychuk noted.
She also denied statements by some politicians that the draft amendments to the Constitution are supposedly ready. "This is not true," the head of state advisor added.
