A cultural information center will be opened in Saint Petersburg as a part of foreign diplomatic institution of Ukraine. The decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, and corresponding changes to the list of foreign diplomatic institution have introduced.
The document has been worked out by the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine with a purpose of strengthening Ukrainian presence in the Russian Federation and strengthening Ukraine's positions in realization of its foreign interests.
One of the main tasks of cultural information centers of Ukraine abroad is contact with Ukrainians living abroad, and opening of a new center in Saint Petersburg will help to improve communication with Ukrainian citizens of that North-Western region of Russia.
According to the official data, there are 300 thousand Ukrainian citizens and up to 1.2 million people of Ukrainian origin living in that region.
