Every state official should understand that party ties and high positions will not protect from responsibility, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Andriy Kliuyev declared, ForUm learned from the NSDC press office.

Kliuyev expressed confidence that the time of impunity is ending. He stressed that every official should realize that in case of violation of the law, sooner or later he will be called to account. As an example he cited the case against former head of the tourism department of the Kyiv regional state administration, who was sentenced to nine years in prison for taking bribes.

"Corruption in Ukraine has become one of the major threats to national security. It largely determines inefficiency of the system of state and local authority. These things are interrelated: an official either works for himself or for the people. So today we must catch up over the past few years to quickly turn the tide. I think it's a question of survival of Ukraine - I am not exaggerating," the official said.

Kliuyev also declared that the Party of Regions will ruthlessly expel from its ranks the officials involved in corruption and added that it is necessary to get rid of these people before the election, not after it. According to the NSDC head, the lawless practice of "local kings" is not a problem of any particular party, but of the whole society. "All political forces must do their part of work," he summed up.
