Corruption in judicial system must be stopped very rigidly, regardless of the rank or past achievements, stated Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Andriy Klyuyev, ForUm learned from the press office of the Party of Regions.
"The example of the judge Zvarych, who "sang carols" on millions, supposed to be instructive. Unfortunately, it seems that the "servant of Themis” from Kherson proved the opposite, showing reluctance to learn from the mistakes of others. It is important the investigation to be carried out clearly and professionally," said the NSDC Secretary.
He considers it possible to initiate a change in legislation on combating corruption in order to strengthen accountability for violations of law by judges and law enforcement officials.
"Hydra of corruption can be burnt out only by a hot iron of liability. Every judge, every official must understand that impunity is over, and responsibility will come sooner or later," Andriy Klyuyev said.
At the same time, he said, work to minimize corruption should be systemic. It is both to increase the effectiveness of law enforcement, and, last but not least, to change the rules and regulations that would reduce the opportunities for corruption.
"Deregulation of the economy, cutting the powers and functions of government authorities on intervention in business affairs, simplification and automation of administrative procedures, reducing the need for citizens to communicate with government officials - those methods, which will give a comprehensive result," explained the NSDC Secretary.
According to him, corruption in the judiciary undermines citizens' trust in justice, and thereby significantly inhibits the development of Ukraine, first of all, its economy. "The ability to protect property rights, to defend own interests in dealing with the state and the competitors are key parameters for every investor in the choice of the region to invest the capital. Corruption, including in the judicial system, is the main basis for raiding," Andriy Klyuyev noted.
