Cheese and other "wars" must be considered in the plain of Russia's aspirations to strengthen its influence on the post-Soviet space, former vice PM and finance minister of Russia Alexey Kudrin told ForUm in an interview.

"Any way you slice it Russia has mass interests and lobbying positions. You don't have to be a political scientist or a minister to understand that Russia is interested in domination on the post-Soviet space," Kudrin said.

According to him, on one hand it is logical and linked to the history of many hundreds of years. "On the other hand, certain measures and approaches should not be applied in the relations with other countries. Pressure is one thing, but we should not forget about equal rights in the dialogue, even if another side is economically weaker and politically dependent on external gas supplies," Kudrin believes.

"Hence, cheese and other 'wars' must be considered in the plain of Russia's aspirations to strengthen its influence on the post-Soviet region," the official summed up.
