Ukraine needs an effective system of consumers protection from substandard and counterfeit products, as the situation in this area is becoming critical, President Viktor Yanukovych said at today’s meeting of the Council of Regions, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.
"Quality food and high standards of food mean high-quality consumption; it is the health of our children, our families. And it is certainly a component of our country’s positive image on the world market as manufacturer of food products," he said.
"The facts of counterfeiting Ukrainian products also threaten their access to outside markets, and will definitely spoil our international image. I think under these circumstances the government can not stand aside," said Viktor Yanukovych.
Concerted action of both central and regional government is urgently needed to ensure real responsibility of sellers’, importers’, and manufacturers’ responsibility the supply of poor-quality products.
