U.S. Embassy Kyiv will start processing Diversity Visas (DV) for Ukrainian applicants beginning March 1, 2012, press office of the Embassy informs.

According to the press release, the first DV interviews will be conducted for the Ukrainian applicants who were selected as DV winners on the basis of their on-line registration for the DV lottery 2010 (often referred to as the “Green Card Lottery”).

Ukrainian DV applicants will no longer need to travel to our Embassy in Warsaw, Poland, to attend their DV interviews as was the previous policy.  This should be much more convenient for Ukrainian DV applicants.

At the same time, document notes that applicants whose DV interviews had been scheduled prior to March 1, 2012, need to follow the instructions provided to them by the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) and proceed either to Warsaw or to Kyiv as indicated in the instructions.  The Embassy notes that if the DV interview was originally scheduled to occur at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, the case will not be transferred to Kyiv and the applicants still need to attend their appointments in Warsaw.

A total of 50,000 diversity visas will be drawn in the 2013 lottery, and they give the right to live and work in the United States. DVs are drawn among six geographic regions. The largest number of visas goes to regions with low levels of emigration to the United States.
