Before 2014 perinatal centers will be opened in all regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv and Sevastopol, Health Minister Oleksandr Anishchenko informed.

According to him, opening of perinatal centers, aimed at rendering available medical assistance to mothers and newborns, is planned within the national project "New life."

Anishchenko noted that in 2012 perinatal centers of the third grade will be opened in Kirovograd, Donetsk, Kharkiv and Kyiv. The Health Ministry intends to hold internal and external audit to form a schedule of opening the centers in other regions.

"The child and mother death rate in Ukraine is two times higher than in Europe. Medical assistance in ill-equipped hospitals and institutions results in high level of health complications. That's why the national project implements new philosophy of health care for mother and child and creates new infrastructures for this," the Minister said.

"Almost 1200 medical workers have already passed special training on skills upgrade in order to work in the future perinatal centers," Anishchenko added.
