Ukraine has fulfilled nearly 80-85% of the legislative work needed to abolish visa travels for Ukrainian citizens by the European Union.

"For today, actually less than in a year we have made approximately 80-85% of the legislative work necessary for the abolition by the EU of visa travels for Ukrainian citizens," the Foreign Ministry said commenting on the implementation of the Action Plan on Visa Liberalization with the EU, UKRINFORM reported.

In fact, the Foreign Ministry noted, it remains only to complete work on several key issues. In particular, the Ukrainian side should regulate by law the introduction of biometric documents for traveling abroad, regulate coordination of anti-corruption activities in Ukraine and establish a legal framework to combat discrimination in the country.

As UKRINFORM reported, the introduction of visa-free travels with the EU is one of the three most pressing problems in the context of Ukraine's European integration, along with the conclusion of association and free trade area agreements with the EU.

In the field of visa travels with EU the official Kyiv is working on the basis of the Action Plan on Visa Liberalization, obtained in November last year.

The instrument contains a list of EU specific criteria in four blocks: document security, including biometrics; countering illegal migration, including readmission; ensuring public order and security; ensuring the fundamental rights and freedoms.
