A group of MPs from the Party of Regions, People's party, Communist party and "Reforms for future" party propose to authorize the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and to hand over objects of cultural heritage for the free use or in property to religious communities.
The draft bill also proposes to authorize bodies on protection of cultural heritage of Crimea and regional state administrations to hand over objects of cultural heritage of local significance for the free use or in property to religious communities.
According to the explanatory note, the goal of the draft bill is to exclude the cultic objects from the list of monuments of cultural heritage, unliable to privatization, and to return them to religious communities.
In April 2011 President Viktor Yanukovych promised churches to return cultic structures and property, seized in the times of USSR.
