The Russian side is not willing to change the terms of the current gas agreement with Ukraine, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said opening today's session of the government, ForUm correspondent reports.

"2012 will be decisive in resolving the so-called gas issue. Our Russian partners do not want to change the terms of the gas agreement, and they are fully content with them. Of course, the Russian side will continue to insist on maintaining the status quo. But we told them that if we are strategic partners for future, then we must build our cooperation as strategic partners," he said.

According to Azarov, in 2012 Ukraine plans to change the structure of energy consumption. "Within the program on import substitution, the construction of the first stage of the Dniester Pumped Storage Plant would be finished in 2012, which will help reduce consumption of imported gas," the PM added.
