Ukraine expects the EU to adopt a positive decision on the Association Agreement, President Viktor Yanukovych told journalists after Ukrainian-Tajik talks, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

"I hope we get a positive decision at the summit, which will lead to the signing of relevant documents. And then, accordingly, the process of ratification in all the EU countries will begin," said Viktor Yanukovych.

The President praised EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule’s visit to Ukraine on the eve of the 15th EU-Ukraine Summit. "I have expressed my position about everything concerning the signing of the documents, and asked the Commissioner to convey it to the European Commission before the EU-Ukraine Summit," said Viktor Yanukovych. He stressed that the Ukrainian side has done a lot to prepare for the successful completion of the Association Agreement negotiations. In particular, he said, a large and important part of Ukrainian legislation was brought in line with European standards.

"According to the European Commissioner, as I’ve heard him say, there were no critical remarks about Ukraine, except for those concerning Tymoshenko," he said. Stefan Fule had received answers to his questions about that matter, Viktor Yanukovych added. "We created all the conditions in the framework of Ukrainian legislation for the European Commissioner to visit the Lukyanivska pre-trial prison and meet with Yulia Tymoshenko. I personally have not heard his comments after this meeting, but judging from the available information his opinion was positive," stated the President.
