The level of social assistance to citizens must not decrease, President Viktor Yanukovych said in an interview in Yenakiieve, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

"I am against cutting benefits. We need to create a situation, when we could say that in a couple of years we would be able to perform all the laws [on social security], and the budget could take it," he said. Undoubtedly, he added, a prerequisite for that is the improvement of economic situation in the country.

According to the President, addressing the issue of Chornobyl cleanup workers’ demands should involve NGOs. "Our main objective is to gather all the protest participants at a negotiating table and agree on how to resolve this issue. We must not close our eyes or look for those guilty, but solve the problem," Viktor Yanukovych said, adding that he had already given the instruction to organize such meetings to the Government.

"We must solve this problem now, but do it transparently. With the participation of NGOs, government representatives – honestly, transparently and responsibly," he said.
