Russia expects positive decision on the status of the Russian language in Ukraine, Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matviyenko told journalists after the meeting with Ukraine's PM Azarov.

"First of all we are interested in positive decision on the status of the Russian language in Ukraine. In return, Ukraine can raise the question on opening Ukrainian schools in Russia," Matviyenko said.
She underlined that Russia is ready to assist in opening of Ukrainian schools on its territory if there are volunteers to study in the Ukrainian language.

"If Ukrainian Diaspora in Russian regions applies for opening Ukrainian schools and if there are students wishing to study in the Ukrainian language, we will provide our full assistance and support," Matviyenko said.
