About 50 thousand of foreign students study in Ukraine, Education Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports. "It is a way more than during USSR times," he specified.
The Minister noted that during Soviet times almost all 30 thousand students were studying for free. "It was USSR's present to some counties, political movements and parties," he explained. Now, according to him, 99.9% of foreign students are on the contract basis.
At the same time Tabachnyk noted that there are students who study for free on exchange basis. "It means the same number of Ukrainian students is also studying for free in this or that country," he said.
Tabachnyk also informed that the number of Chinese students in Ukraine is expected to increase twofold. According to the Minister, foreign students in Ukraine represent 134 countries.
