An appeal of Yulia Tymoshenko, the Ukrainian former Prime Minister, leader of the opposition Batkivshchyna, against her conviction and seven-year jail sentence for abusing her powers in a 2009 gas deal signed with Russia, has been sent to Kyiv's Pechersky District Court on Tuesday, Ihor Andrushko, an aide of the chief of the State Penitentiary Service, told the press, UKRINFORM reports.

He said the appeal handed over Monday to the officials of the Lukyanivka detention center, where Tymoshenko stays, in a prescribed manner was sent to the court. Then, the appeal of the defendant will be filed to a court of appeals.

On October 11, Kyiv's Pechersky District Court sentenced Tymoshenko to seven years in prison, with no right to hold public office for three years. In addition, the court ruled to oblige the former prime minister to pay over UAH 1.516 billion to NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.
