Former major of state security Mykola Melnichenko is officially on wanted list, Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

He reminded that the court had renewed the investigation of the criminal case against Melnichenko on abuse of power, reveal of state secret and falsification of proofs. According to Pshonka, Melnichenko was on recognisance not to leave, but violated it twice. The prosecution ordered to deliver him to an investigator, but Melnichenko was not found. "From September 23 Melnichenko is officially on wanted list," the Prosecutor General informed.

As a reminder, in 2001 and 2004 separate crimial cases were instituted against former major of state security Mykola Melnichenko on abuse of power, reveal of state secret and falsification of proofs.

On March 1, 2005 the cases were closed, and then Prosecutor General recognized Melnichenko's actions as legal.

June 23, 2011 the Pechersk court cancelled the decision of March 1, 2005 and reopened the case against Menichenko.

Mykola Melnichenko claims to have records proving the involvement of then president Leonid Kuchma and speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn in the murder of journalist Georgiy Gongadze.
