Ukrainian version of Euronews is another step to strengthen democracy and press freedom in Ukraine. It has been stated by the President at the meeting with the chiefs of Euronews Television Company, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

The President has congratulated the chiefs of the company on the opening of Ukrainian version of Euronews. He also noted that it was indisputably a new page of the channel’s history. Viktor Yanukovych considered it very symbolic that Euronews had started its Ukrainian broadcasting on the 20th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

“Creation of this edition is our common step to strengthen democracy and press freedom in Ukraine. I am confident that your work will raise the objectivity of information and the professionalism of journalists in Ukraine,” the President said.

The President also added that it was a real opportunity to cooperate with leading international agencies, experts and journalist organizations.

Chairman of the Euronews Supervisory Board Pier Luigi Malesani also noted that the opening of Ukrainian edition of Euronews was very important for the company.

 “We are glad that our broadcasting in Ukraine has started on the 20th anniversary of your country. Developments in Ukraine are very important for the whole Europe as well as developments in Europe are important for Ukraine,” Pier Luigi Malesani said.

Managing director of Euronews Michael Peters on behalf of the journalists has assured that from the first day of broadcasting all of them realized the importance of their work and would do it at the highest professional level. 

“On behalf of my colleagues I can say today that we work as one team with maximum level of editors’ independence. I hope that we will be able to prove that our informational product will be of the best quality,” Michael Peters said.

The representatives of the company have particularly noted the speed at which the issue of the organization of Ukrainian Euronews’ work had been solved. “Taking into account such efficiency it can be said that EURO-2012 matches in Ukraine will be held on a decent level,” Pier Luigi Malesani noted.

Viktor Yanukovych has invited the chiefs of Euronews to visit the final match of EURO-2012 and presented newly printed art photo of reconstructed NSC Olympic. “You will be the first who have the photo of our reconstructed National Sports Complex,” he said. In return, the representatives of Euronews have presented the footage of the first Ukrainian Euronews programs to the President.
