Ukrainian TV channels in 2011 have an imbalanced coverage of power and opposition activities, representatives of the Academy of Ukrainian Press have aired returns of their studies at UKRINFORM.
"Results of research of the Academy of Ukrainian Press with participation of scientists of the Institute of Sociology under the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Telekritika, Institute of Mass Information testify to the fact that TV channels in 2011 have an imbalanced coverage of the power and opposition activities. As before, negative opinions are addressed mainly to the opposition representatives," Academy of Ukrainian Press Chairman Valeriy Ivanov said.
He informed that the research was carried out according to the content analysis method on the basis of seven leading Ukrainian TV channels, such as Inter, 1+1, New Channel, TV and radio companies Ukraine, STB and the First National channel.
According to head of the mass communication department of the Institute of Sociology under the National Science Academy Natalia Kostenko, the First National channel was a leader on less balanced distribution of attention, the most balanced coverage of the power and opposition activities are on the New Channel, STB and TRK Ukraine.
In turn, Telekritika Editor-in-Chief Natalia Lihacheva noted that "some facts, themes, started to be silenced." As an example, she cited the situation with closing of three Kharkiv TV channels and the situation with TBi.
