The prosecutors asked the court yesterday to sentence Yulia Tymoshenko to seven years in prison. "Given the danger to the public and seriousness of the offense committed by the defendant, we ask that you sentence Yulia Tymoshenko under paragraph 3 of article 365 [of the Criminal Code] to seven years in prison and ban her from holding public office," said prosecutor Liliya Frolova.
Batkivshchyna Party leader and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said that the judge and prosecutors in her trial are carrying out political orders from President Yanukovych. "There is no doubt that all this is being done on political orders from Yanukovych," Tymoshenko said in court.
Yulia Tymoshenko also appealed to the parliamentarians present in the courtroom: "I ask you: don’t stop fighting to protect the people and Ukraine. Don’t stop even for a moment because a regime of occupiers is in power and you must do everything possible for them to leave Ukraine. This is your obligation, along with all the opposition forces."
