Civil society should be well informed about the activities of the
government, President Viktor Yanukovych said, while talking to
journalists about the Open Government Partnership.
"The
initiative of the Presidents of the U.S. and Brazil found a very broad
support. The Open Government program, transparency, accessibility, civil
society involvement in these processes, NGOs is our future... We should
get used to living in a transparent world," Viktor Yanukovych said, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.
The President expressed his belief that creating such a system will
also contribute to fighting corruption and excessive bureaucracy in the
system of public management. In this context he recalled that Ukraine
has already made some steps in that direction, although they are still
not enough. He said that reforming the country would promote the
openness of government’s work. “Reforms make government’s work
transparent and open," he said, also mentioning the adoption of a law on
the access to public information.
"The more people we attract
to governance, the more the public knows about what the government is
doing, what are its approaches to solving various issues, the more we
will consolidate a healthy society on the way of modernization of our
country," Viktor Yanukovych said.
