Our Ukraine faction deputy Viktor Shemchuk submitted for consideration a draft bill on cancellation of criminal responsibility for sex with 14-year old, in case the minor has a marriage permission.
In particular, the draft bill provides for cancellation of criminal responsibility for sex with a minor over 14 but under 16, if the minor applied and received the court permission for marriage.
At the same time, the draft bill provides for criminal responsibility for sex with minors under 16. Now the current legislation provides for responsibility for sex with prepubescent individuals, but the law does not specify certain age.
The MP also noted that UN committee on children rights expressed a concern regarding minimal marriage age for boys (18 years) and girls (17 years).
According to Shemchuk, the committee also demands why Ukrainian legislation does not specify legal age of consent, which makes it problematic to investigate criminal cases on sex relations with minors.
