The bill on the land market is affecting the interests of farmers and provides advantages for large agricultural companies in the acquisition of agricultural land, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agricultural Policy and Land Relations Valeriy Bevzenko has said.

In his opinion, the bill does not protect the land rights of farmers and has no mechanisms that would help the farmers buy land. "What farmers can now buy the land with an area of 2,100 hectares? The law is political, rather than technical," he said, UKRINFORM reported.

Bevzenko said that most farmers do not want to buy land because of the lack of funds or sell their land, because their land plots have been rented.

As UKRINFORM reported, on July 19, 2011, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine submitted a draft law on the land market to the Verkhovna Rada. It is planned that the parliament will consider the document in September.

The president insisted that a moratorium on the sale of agricultural land be lifted from 2012.
