Scientists at the Astronomical Observatory of Mechnikov Odesa National University are looking in Mykolaiv district of Odesa region, south of Ukraine, the remains of a celestial body fallen September 1, senior fellow at the observatory Yuriy Horbanev said.

"We were at the site of the supposed meteorite fall and interviewed eyewitnesses of the event, recorded the direction of the celestial body crash. According to eyewitnesses, there was a fireball phenomenon seen - when the meteorite enters the atmosphere with a burning tail behind it," the astronomer said, UKRINFORM reported.

According to Horbanev, "now it is too early to say that this was the meteorite and not, say, a piece of the satellite. There's a big area that needs to be examined. Now we are discussing the possibility of sending an expedition to Mykolaiv region to detect the substance itself," he underscored.
