While testifying in court today, former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said that the legitimacy of the gas agreements signed with Russia in 2009 was confirmed by their ratification by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

“The contracts that were signed by Naftohaz, I emphasize – Naftohaz, not me personally, and were drafted by Naftohaz and implemented by Naftohaz - were ratified three times: first by the board of Naftohaz that signed them, second by the government on January 21, 2009, and third by the Verkhovna Rada,” Yulia Tymoshenko said, according to the official website.

The ex-premier also noted that the January 21, 2009 meeting of the Cabinet of Minister during which the gas contracts were discussed was attended by Deputy Prosecutor General Tetyana Kornyakova and the contracts were approved by the government in an open and transparent process. “The Government of Ukraine approved in a legitimate way the actions of the government delegation that I headed, and there were no problems then. This was the ratification of the contracts by the government and the deputy prosecutor general didn’t express at the time any doubts over the legality of the premier’s actions,” she added.
