Deputy Prime Minister Serhiy Tihipko, the leader of the Strong Ukraine party, who on August 16 declared his party's intention to merge with the ruling Party of Regions, explained his position on Inter TV channel, according to UKRNFORM.

He stressed that the decision on the merger of the Strong Ukraine with the Party of Regions will be made after debate with party members.

"We have started discussions with party members. This is not a final decision. We are discussing this possibility," Tihipko emphasized.

Explaining why he had initiated the merger, Tihipko noted that the politics it is, above all, ideas, and the main purpose of entering politics he sees the reforms and modernization. According to him, "everything else - it is personal ambitions".

"If the Party of Regions did not settle for reforms, for changes - and I was following this closely for the past year and a half, then I would have some doubts about it. But I see that the Party of Regions is set to reform. And for me it is the most important thing," the deputy premier underscored.
