The Ukrainian government has approved of amendments to the concept of reforming the system of public road management and adopted a plan of measures for its implementation, the Ministry of Infrastructure said in a statement Tuesday, according to UKRINFORM.
Among the key measures, which were presented by Deputy Prime Minister/Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov, is a transfer along with the appropriate funding of more than 122,000 km of local roads to regional administrations. Thus, the instrument expands powers and enhances responsibility of local authorities for the management of local roads.
It is also planned to restructure State Joint Stock Company "Motor Roads of Ukraine". In order to create a competitive environment and improve the quality of work in the market for road maintenance it is planned to involve private companies.
As part of the operation of public roads the Ministry of Infrastructure has set priorities - providing conditions for safe and comfortable movement of citizens along Ukrainian roads.
Therefore, the implementation of concepts will not only improve the state of roads, but also help improve the living standards of Ukrainians and the international image of Ukraine.
