The State Environmental Investment Agency of Ukraine since the beginning of the year has approved 871 environmental investment projects totaling 1.93 billion UAH (1 USD - 7.97 UAH). This was announced by First Deputy Minister Ivan Varha, UKRINFORM reported.

In particular, for the first half of 2011, Ukrainian enterprises have attracted about 250 million euros through the mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To date, 16 projects with a mechanism of joint implementation were carried out.

"As of June 24, a total of 871 projects for targeted environmental investments in 16 regions of Ukraine were approved. Of these, 830 projects involve social infrastructure facilities (heat insulation of facades and roofs, replacement of windows and doors), 40 aim at replacing boilers with transition to alternative fuels, and one project is for building treatment plants to clean up mine water at Voykov Mine in the city of Sverdlovsk, Luhansk region (eastern Ukraine)," a representative of the agency said.
