Ukraine attaches great importance to full implementation of its commitments to the Council of Europe, President Viktor Yanukovych said after meeting President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mevlut Cavusoglu in Strasbourg. "Meeting the commitments Ukraine made to the Council of Europe sixteen years ago," he said. 

The President noted that in his speech at last year’s PACE session he had promised Ukraine would spare no effort to make significant progress in carrying out its obligations. "We are really making progress," Viktor Yanukovych said. The most recent important step in that direction he called completing the preparation of a new Criminal Procedure Code, "which would effectively implement the commitments made by Ukraine." 

President Yanukovych informed that during his meeting with the PACE President they had discussed several issues on the agenda of Ukraine’s presidency in the PACE Committee of Ministers. According to the President, Ukraine strongly supports the reform of PACE, which is now going on at the initiative of Mevlut Cavusoglu. 

Viktor Yanukovych said that unity of countries and the society around such values as democratic development, rule of law, and protection of human rights is very important for the modern world. 

For his part, the President of PACE noted that the Council of Europe is looks forward to hearing President Yanukovych’s speech today. "We welcome and support the priorities of Ukraine’s presidency in the Council of Europe," he said. Mevlut Cavusoglu praised the reforms being carried out in Ukraine, particularly the constitutional reform, electoral law reform, and fight against corruption. "I am confident that Ukraine’s presidency [in the Committee of Ministers] will be very successful," he said.
