President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych suggests publicizing a list of high-profile corruption cases to inform the public about the progress of their investigation, he said at today’s meeting of the National Anti-Corruption Committee.

"We will soon make such a list of high-profile cases, where large amounts of money stolen from the state are featured. It is necessary that the people knew about them. And then we must report to the public on their investigation and how do we return the taxpayers' money," he said.

In his speech the President cited the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine data, according to which the state lost about 10 billion hryvnias on procurements last year. "New schemes are invented and pushed into the Law on Public Procurement, intended to make stealing public funds easier," he said.

He reminded that on May 24, the Group of States Against Corruption (GRECO) stated Ukraine’s low efficiency in terms of legislative support of the fight against corruption and its incompliance with the European standards of combating corruption.

“The recommendations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development have not been carried out for a long time too. This complicates the European prospects of Ukraine, including the introduction of visa-free travel, and attracting real foreign investments," he said.

Viktor Yanukovych stressed that Ukraine has always been, is and will be open to development and implementation of a real and effective anti-corruption policy. "We have enough powers to fight this disgraceful abnormality," he said.

Viktor Yanukovych drew attention to the need to significantly intensify National Anti-Corruption Committee’s work. "We must introduce regular per-direction monitoring of the public anti-corruption policy. The National Anti-Corruption Committee will hold thematic meetings monthly," he said.

The President requested the Secretariat to the Committee to prepare a plan of its meetings for the second half of the year within two weeks.
