Ukraine is continuing to take efforts to find the financial resources required to implement Chornobyl projects in full, according to Andriy Honcharuk, an adviser to the Ukrainian president and the head of the main department of international relations at the Presidential Administration, UKRINFORM reported.

He said that in the short term, the volume of the collected funds would grow to EUR 700 million. In this regard, Honcharuk said he hoped that some international partners of Ukraine, in particular, European institutions, would increase their respective contributions.

He recalled that after the conference on raising funds for this purpose in Kyiv on April 19, a number of countries had expressed their desire to join the additional funding of Chornobyl projects. These, in particular, are Saudi Arabia and Canada (the sum of contributions - EUR 14 million and EUR 21 million respectively). In addition, Chairman of the Italian Council of Ministers Silvio Berlusconi said during a summit of the Group of Eight in Deauville on May 26-27 that his country had decided to allocate EUR 26 million for the Chornobyl Shelter Fund.

Thus, Honcharuk said, the total amount of contributions declared by the international community to finance the Chornobyl projects has currently reached EUR 610 million.
