The Kyiv Zoo states that a campaign is underway against it with the aim of closing the Zoo in the city center and development of this territory.
"Recently, letters are coming to the Zoo from the Western countries, where separate citizens and public organizations demand to close the Kyiv Zoo. In our opinion, it is a consequence of a long-term media campaign on the theme "Zoo is Cemetery for Animals," during which over March-April 2011 disinformation was spread about the death of 500, and then 611 animals at Kyiv Zoo," the statement of the personnel reads, UKRINFORM reported.
The Zoo emphasizes that its closure is contrary to the existing legislation of Ukraine. In addition, according to authors of the statement, Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov flatly denies possibility of the closure, transfer of the Kyiv Zoo and building-up of its present territory.
