Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko today plans to visit former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, who has been hospitalized following a long hunger strike in protest of his unjustified detention.

"Today we will go to the hospital to visit Yuriy Lutsenko, to see what condition he’s in, how’s he’s handling the hunger strike, and if his life is in danger. I think that political repression in Ukraine has reached an unprecedented level and must be stopped immediately through the efforts of Ukrainian society and opposition politicians," Yulia Tymoshenko told journalists today.

On April 20, while in a detention facility, Yuriy Lutsenko finished reviewing all the materials in the criminal case against him. Nevertheless, the court disregarded this fact and the next day ordered to keep the former minister in jail until May 27. Afterwards, Yuriy Lutsenko announced a hunger strike that he said would last as long as his body allowed.
