President Viktor Yanukovych has expressed gratitude to the heads of states, governments and their authorized representatives, as well as the leaders of international organizations, who have gathered today in Kyiv, for supporting his joint initiative with President of France Nicolas Sarkozy to hold a conference to raise additional funds for the Chornobyl projects.

"Especially, I would like to thank to the states and international organizations that have made donations to the Chornobyl Shelter Fund today.

It is impossible to overestimate the importance of your support for the efforts of the people of Ukraine, who have been working hard for these 25 years to revive the damaged area.

Global scale of the Chornobyl tragedy does not recognize national borders," Viktor Yanukovych said in his closing remarks at the conference to raise funds for the Chornobyl projects.

The Chornobyl disaster, he said, just like the tragic events at the Fukushima I NPP in Japan, will long remain the events of global importance and challenges to mankind.

"We all realize that the resources needed for coping with disasters of such magnitude are far beyond economic and technological potential of any particular country, and certainly do require joint efforts of the international community.

The results of today's conference demonstrated the readiness of the international community to enhance cooperation and collaboration in addressing the consequences of technological disasters," Viktor Yanukovych stressed.
