Agreement on the establishment of a free trade zone within the Commonwealth of Independent States may be signed in May 2011, if it expands rather than limits opportunities for Ukraine. This was stated by Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov on Thursday, during his meeting with Chairman of the Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev, UKRINFORM reported.

"In general, the development of the treaty text is completed, it is mainly agreed, and we expect its signing at the next meeting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Council in May this year in Minsk," Mykola Azarov said. He added that the agreement on a free trade zone should improve trade conditions, or signing this document does not make sense.

Moreover, Mykola Azarov informed that Ukraine has already begun active preparations for the meeting of the CIS Economic Council to be held April 15 at Yalta, in whose framework a business forum will take place. Ukraine will be represented at the meeting by First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Andriy Kliuyev.
