The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) hopes that Ukraine will settle all problems related to the freedom of speech and democracy in the country, OSCE Chairman-in-Office and Foreign Minister of Lithuania Audronius Azubalis has said.

"We hope that the issues that I raised today with my counterpart [Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko] will be seriously and thoroughly studied by our counterparts. We hope Ukraine will remain one of the leaders in media freedom in the region... and one of the leaders in promoting democracy and creating a truly civil society," Azubalis said at a briefing in Kyiv on Monday.

He also said that the international community had noted certain problems in the observance of human rights and media freedoms in Ukraine.

According to Yulia Tymoshenko's press office Batkivshchyna Party leader will meet today with OSCE Chairperson-in-Office during his official visit to Ukraine.

During the meeting they will discuss the political situation in Ukraine, economic and political freedoms, selective application of justice as a way of persecuting political opponents, and the situation with free speech.
