The Verkhovna Rada has ratified a protocol of Ukraine's accession to the Treaty Establishing the Energy Community that will promote attraction of western investments to modernization of Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS).

Presenting the document, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee for Foreign Affairs Taras Chornovil explained that one of the aims of the Energy Community is promotion of attraction of investments to the energy sector of the Treaty member countries, UKRINFORM reported.

He also noted that remarks of the Verkhovna Rada expert agency to the draft document concerned the fact that a precise amount of Ukraine's contribution was not determined. Chornovil noted that this amount may be determined only next year. But, according to him, it is not large and makes up from 0.1 to 0.7%, which makes up several thousand euro.

It is expected that implementation of the norms of the European economy legislation will promote expansion of an access of Ukrainian exporters to the European energy markets, give possibility of direct access to final users, allow avoiding mediation services, create market conditions in the economy's market sector that will promote attraction of investments for expansion of possibilities and improvement of the existing energy infrastructure and will promote further development and integration of Ukrainian energy networks into the European system.

On November 19, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych submitted the designated bill for consideration of the Verkhovna Rada.

To remind, on September 24, Ukraine joined the Energy Community. In Skopje (Republic of Macedonia) the signature of the Protocol took place on Ukraine's accession to the Treaty Establishing the Energy Community. Now, EU countries are members of this organization, in particular, seven Balkan countries and Moldova. This year, Macedonia presides in the Energy Community.
