Several thousand people in Ukraine are protesting a draft tax law that they say favors big business and will choke small and medium-size firms. Organizers of the protest actions informed those present that ther were already 30 thousand people and 20 more were to be expected.

Hundreds of small-business owners assembled Tuesday outside the parliament in the capital, Kiev, to bang metal pots and buckets, blow horns and whistles and chant "Shame, Shame!"

Today the parliament is considering the new tax code, claiming the code will streamline the complicated tax system and increase budget revenues to aid the recovery from the severe economic downturn.

But businesspeople say it will deprive small enterprises of desperately needed tax breaks.
