President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych believes that signing the Free Trade Agreement with Canada would boost trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and Canada, he said  answering questions at the press conference in Kyiv following Ukrainian-Canadian talks.

"We will seek to ensure that such an agreement was signed in the near future," he said, presidential press office reported.

Viktor Yanukovych noted that both countries are interested in the agreement. "We believe that both Ukraine and Canada will benefit from the agreement. Liberalization of trade relations will significantly expand foreign markets: in the North American space for Ukraine, and in the Eurasian space for Canada," he said.

The President said that the next round of negotiations on the FTA will be held in Ottawa in mid-December.

From his part, Prime Minister Stephen Harper also expressed his confidence in the importance of signing the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement.

"We expect positive results from negotiations on the FTA. And we agree that this agreement will not only help improve commercial relations, but also enable our countries to gain acess to additional, new markets and strengthen our position in these markets," the Prime Minister of Canada said.

"Our commercial relations should be elevated to the same proportions that exist in the interpersonal relations," Stephen Harper said.
