On Monday Ukraine launches nomination of candidates in multimember and single-seat constituencies, as well as candidates for the posts of village, township and city mayor in the election of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, local councils and village, township, city mayors, according to the schedule of basic institutional arrangements for the preparation and holding of elections on October 31, 2010, posted on the CEC website.

As noted in the plan, the nomination of candidates begins 34 days and ends 28 days before the Election Day, and proceeds from September 27 to October 2 inclusive.

As reported, the elections of local authorities were slated for October 31. September 11 kicked off the campaign for election of deputies of the Crimean parliament, local councils, village, township and city mayors.

The elections will be held under the majority-proportional system: 50% of the deputies will be elected on party tickets and 50% in majority districts. Participation of political party blocs in local elections is not provided. a
