Ukraine should remain in Europe’s field of attention given the violations of democratic principles and rights, says Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of Ukraine’s Batkivshchyna Party.

"It was important for me to hear today that Ukraine is in the EU’s field of attention. The leaders of Europe understand the problems in Ukraine with democracy, free speech, honest elections, human rights, and the complete destruction of the justice system. They have adequately assessed the situation and I am confident that they will defend these values, because Ukraine is not just a member of the Council of Europe, we are also participants in the Eastern Partnership Program, as well as a country seeking potential membership in the EU," Yulia Tymoshenko said during a visit to Brussels, where she attended the European People's Party Summit, the press office of the party reported.

She considers the resolution adopted by the EPP Political Assembly regarding the situation in Ukraine to be a proper assessment by the Europeans of the new government’s steps to curtail democracy. "Ukraine won’t be left alone in this difficult period in our history, when we once again need to fight for our independence, for democracy, and for freedom of speech."

"I am leaving the summit with optimism because I believe the values that Europe professes will be protected by Europe in Ukraine," said the leader of the Batkivshchyna Party.
