Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko hopes that today’s protests in Ukraine will be the start of a movement that will bring about change in government policy.

"Today we’re starting a movement that will end with the people saying a firm ‘no’ to Yanukovych, Azarov’s government, and everything they’re doing to the country," Yulia Tymoshenko said during a rally today by the parliament building in Kyiv, BYuT press office reported.

The success of this movement depends on the unity of all opposition forces and civil society. "We need to gradually build our unity and strength," she said.

The first step, in her opinion, is to stop the government from increasing rates for gas and communal services. "Until the crisis is fully over we need to suspend all increases in tariffs and gas prices because this is not justified given the current economic environment."

Yulia Tymoshenko highlighted that her government managed to not raise prices during the global crisis. "We thought about strengthening the economy by opening new businesses, by supporting the aviation and machine-building industries, not by taking the last money people had in their pockets."
