President Viktor Yanukovych says one of the major tasks of the government is to eliminate extortions and humiliation of business, he said Wednesday at a regular meeting of the Committee for Economic Reforms, according to UKRINFORM.

He noted that currently one of the main priorities is to improve conditions for business development. "First of all, I mean deregulation of the licensing system and a drastic reduction of licenses," Yanukovych stressed. He called this issue "a cornerstone, which inhibits the development of business today, as well as inflows of foreign direct investments to Ukraine."

At the same time, the head of state noted that to resolve the situation in this area concrete steps have been made. "I was forced to personally intervene and submit to parliament a bill on market supervision and control of production, reduction of the list of licensing of certain activities," he emphasized.

Yanukovych also pointed to the government's decision to reduce the number of permits by 50 percent. According to him, this is the result of negotiations, a joint cooperation. But there must be only 10 percent, Yanukovych said. "And we will have a more specific discussion on the question in the near future," he added.

"Our goal is to stop extortions and humiliation of business," the head of state noted. In his words, our country must provide business with some assurances, which, in turn, must pay taxes. The Ukrainian president is convinced that licenses, permits should be given only to companies associated with the life, health and safety of people.
