The main goal of an official visit to Ukraine by UEFA General Secretary Gianni Infantino, who arrived in Lviv on Wednesday, is to inspect the state of Ukraine's preparations for holding the finals of the UEFA EURO 2012 European Football Championship. This is his first visit to Ukraine as UEFA general secretary.

Infantino is expected to familiarize himself with the construction of a new terminal at Lviv airport, visit the construction site of the stadium for EURO 2012 and inspect the fan zone, UKRINFORM reported.

On August 11, UEFA delegates will also leave for Donetsk, and on August 12, they will visit Kharkiv and Kyiv, where the general secretary and government representatives will discuss the implementation of the program of preparations for the European football tournament.

UEFA experts will also pay attention to the observance of deadlines for the construction and reconstruction of airports in all host cities, the construction of stadiums in Kyiv and Lviv, as well as the creation of effective teams managing key facilities.

Infantino's visit to Ukraine is made ahead of a meeting of the UEFA supervisory board on EURO 2012, which will take place in Nyon, Switzerland, in late September 2010, and its results will form the basis of a report and will be the subject for discussion by UEFA management of the EURO 2012 project.

The UEFA supervisory board earlier decided to approve the right of four cities in Ukraine (Kyiv, Donetsk, Lviv and Kharkiv) to stage EURO 2012.
