Yulia Tymoshenko's opposition party Batkivshchyna (Motherland) has challenged a 50% rise in household gas price in court.

According to MP Serhiy Vlasenko of BYuT faction, who laid an action to the District Administrative Court of Kyiv, the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had no legal, political and economic grounds and preconditions for making such decision, according to UKRINFORM.

Moreover, according to the lawmaker, by taking this decision, NERC violated a number of legislative acts, a number of decrees of the Cabinet of Ministers, as well as a temporary provision for the establishment of limit prices for natural gas.

Vlasenko said that the Motherland party looks forward to an impartial consideration of the claim by the court and that the court will recognize the decision unlawful and cancel it.

As reported, the National Electricity Regulatory Commission on July 13 increased starting August 1 household retail prices for natural gas by an average of 50%
