The Interior Ministry of Ukraine reports that the number of crimes committed in the first half of 2010 increased in all regions of the country, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

"The situation in the country is still difficult. The number of reported crimes has increased by nearly one-third. The number of offences has grown in every region without exception," deputy Interior Minister Serhiy Popkov said at an extended staff meeting of the Interior Ministry in Kyiv on Tuesday.

He said half of all reported crimes remain unsolved. The investigation of these crimes had been improperly organized, the official added.

According to Popkov, one out of seven premeditated murder cases, one out of three serious assault cases, and one out of eight robberies remain unsolved.

The deputy interior minister called on the ministry's staff to draw the appropriate conclusions from these figures.
